Making the Right Decision

The decision to say goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. However, when an animal no longer has a good quality of life or is suffering, euthanasia can be seen as a final act of love and devotion a pet owner can offer their companion. If you are struggling to know whether euthanasia is the right decision, please do not hesitate to contact us for guidance. To help you assess your pet’s quality of life, which includes both physical and emotional well-being, our mobile veterinary service has developed a CHART. This chart is designed to help you visualize your companion’s overall comfort more effectively. You may also ask yourself: If I were in my pet’s condition, what decision would I want made for me?

Once the decision has been made, the procedure can take place in the comfort of your home, making it less stressful for everyone. Your pet will remain in a familiar and reassuring environment. It is also important to know that if you do not feel able to be present during the euthanasia, it is still possible for the procedure to be carried out at home without you directly witnessing it. Everyone has personal limits, and it is essential to do what feels right for you and your family, always with respect for all involved. The euthanasia itself is done in two steps. First, a sedative is administered to help your pet relax completely, without stress or pain. This medication usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to take effect. Once your pet is comfortable and you are ready, the second injection is given, which is the euthanasia itself. At this stage, your pet is no longer aware of what is happening. After the passing is confirmed, you will have as much time as you need with your companion.

Afterwards, we will respect your choice regarding your pet’s final arrangements. Options include communal cremation or private cremation (with or without your presence), with the possibility of receiving your pet’s ashes in a personalized urn. You may also choose to keep a special keepsake, such as a paw print or jewellery containing some of your pet’s ashes. For more details, you can visit the Crémation Animaux RB website.

Euthanasia is not a decision to be taken lightly. For this reason, our team has an internal policy regarding euthanasia requests. If your pet is healthy or is not experiencing a serious medical or behavioural issue, the request may be declined. In such cases, we will work with you to find alternative solutions, such as a consultation to address the concern or the option of rehoming. Your pet’s life is precious. Our mission is to support you with compassion and professionalism through the euthanasia process when the time comes, and to guide you toward the best possible solutions when there are reasonable alternatives to consider.
